Learn how to improve your health through swedish massage in Lexington, KY.

A   Swedish massage   works to relax tired and aching muscles while encouraging the flow of blood and lymph. It is important to encourage the flow of the lymph system because they work to move nutrient-filled liquids and waste around the body. As the therapist relaxes the muscles this allows the system to flush out all of the metabolic waste from the muscles. It is also used to enhance skin tone. A Swedish massage is used to help with certain problems such as relieving muscle tension, loosening up muscles to prepare for strenuous exercise, and as a stress reliever.

The benefits of a Swedish massage are as follows:

  • Improved mobility

  • Improved blood circulation

  • Reduction in pain

  • Delivers more oxygen and nutrients to the muscles which reduces muscle fatigue and soreness

  • Reduction of swelling caused by an accumulation of fluid in the tissues

  • Improved lymphatic drainage

  • Increase in elasticity in the tissues

  • Improve muscle flexibility

  • Speeds up digestion

  • Boosts immunity

  • Encourages better sleep and relieves insomnia

  • Releases endorphins

  • Relaxes the body and mind

  • Improves overall well-being

Deep tissue massage is one of the most popular forms of massage therapy. It usually focuses on deeper layers of muscle tissue as well as connective tissues helping realign them. This means that besides providing pure relaxation to your muscles, it is also a helpful massage for specific injuries and chronic stress. It is especially beneficial to parts which suffer chronic tension such as the neck, shoulders and the lower back.

This type of massage involves the use of different strokes provided in slow movements but with deep pressure. This pressure facilitates in relaxing and getting rid of pain and tension in the muscles. It is expected that your massage therapist will use knuckles, elbows, forearms, hands as well as fingertips when offering this kind of massage. All of these techniques combined will help bring relief to the body. During your deep tissue massage, you could be asked to take deep breaths as a way of getting the best results.

Before going for a deep tissue massage, it is advisable to drink lots of water to prepare your body to flush out toxins that may be released from your muscles during the massage. The same goes for after the massage, for the same reasons. Hydration is a very important part of overall health.  Usually, you will find that you feel much better after your massage therapy session.

Lexington, KY has plenty of massage therapists, and "where should I go for a massage?" seems to be a very common question. When looking for the best massage therapist, there are things you should consider. For instance, always check on their education, reputation and the qualification of the therapist. They should not have a problem providing proof of their license. The internet is a great way to start with your research since most therapists have websites containing all the information you might need.  You can even do a Google search for things like " Where can I get the best massage in Lexington ?".  You can also go to the state licensure board website to make sure a therapist is accurately licensed. Just make sure you are comfortable with your therapist, and that they seem qualified and comfortable providing the type of work you need.

A good massage therapist will have abundant knowledge of anatomy and physiology.  You should be able to communicate comfortably with your massage therapist, and also feel that your questions and concerns have been addressed before and after receiving your treatment.

Have you noticed friends and relatives who complain of feeling a sudden onset of both physical and mental ailments because of the transition from Summer to Fall? As the weather gets colder and people are spending less time outdoors in the sunlight, aches and pains begin to set in as well as moderate to severe depression.

Reacting to changes in the amount of sunlight available, our pineal gland, which is located in the brain, begins to secrete excessive amounts of Melatonin, a hormone that facilitates sleep, but when released in excessive amounts it is believed that Melatonin may contribute to depression. This is where massage can help .  Massage helps calm our body and mind at the same time, and move into our parasympathetic nervous systems where we can find our natural relaxation response. While stress makes our muscles shorten and tighten, massage does the opposite by softening our muscles and lengthening them. In addition, massage helps balance our endocrine system, which is responsible for the release of hormones.

Getting massage on a regular basis is a great way to maintain good health, both physically and mentally. Always remember to take time for yourself and for your body. You deserve it!

Perhaps you're dealing with pain that results from surgical adhesions and scar tissue. This is a common complaint, as unfortunately many of us have dealt the pain of surgery and the important healing that results. While surgical scar tissue is a positive result in that it shows signs of healing, it can also cause uncomfortable tightness in the affected area.

If you're personally struggling with these issues, a call to a massage therapist might bring you much needed relief. Case studies have proven that massage therapy can bring effective relief to these problems, with initial massage treatment sessions focusing on lessening the sensation in and around the adhesions and scar tissue. These sessions work to release the buildup of fluid and toxins in these areas often associated with inflammation. This prepares the area for deeper treatments.

Later sessions often involve unwinding the myofascial holding patterns surrounding the area of focus. Range of motion is often increased with these sessions, as clients are freer to move when not restricted by the pain and tightness of scar tissue.

As mentioned, case studies have proven that massage therapy may even be more effective than further surgery to bring relief to patients. Some studies have shown improvement in as little as 7 sessions. If you're suffering from these issues, a call to your massage therapist may be just what you're looking for. A therapist specialized in myofascial release may be able to assist you, or at the very least, refer you to a colleague who can best help you. If you suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome, then you know just how painful and debilitating it can be. The good news for you? Massage therapy can help .

Carpal tunnel symptoms include tingling, numbness, burning and pain in the hand. It is caused by pressure on the nerve in the wrist that supplies feeling and movement to parts of the hand. This is called the median nerve.

There is an area in your wrist where the nerve enters the hand, which is called the carpal tunnel. The carpal tunnel is normally narrow, so any swelling can pinch the nerve. This is carpal tunnel syndrome.

Carpal tunnel is linked to activities where repetitive use of the hands is involved. Some activities thought to put individuals at risk are heavy computer use, sewing, driving, painting and several other repetitive tasks.

Massage therapy has been shown to be beneficial in treating carpal tunnel, as well as the symptoms. It is important to choose a massage therapist who is familiar with this condition, and comfortable treating it. One massage treatment is not likely to be sufficient, therefore you will want to work out a treatment plan with your massage therapist. As you learn about massage , always keep in mind that many problems in our bodies have taken months or years to create, therefore it will take regular massage treatments to undo them.   Set up regular massage appointments to keep your wrists and your entire body healthy.

Did you know that massage is among the best ways to improve your emotional health? Having massage with moderate pressure for as little as 10 to 15 minutes can offer relief from anger, depression and anxiety. Massage increases serotonin in the body, therefore creating a healthier emotional state. Have you ever noticed a feeling of overall well-being after receiving a massage, both physical and emotional? This is why.

Studies have also shown that massage therapy is helpful for those who have suffered various types of physical and emotional trauma. Sometimes emotional trauma can be held in the muscle tissues, and receiving massage can allow you to release many emotional memories that you've been holding. Massage also encourages slow deep breathing, which also improves overall health, and along with the long flowing strokes of massage, helps to deliver oxygen rich blood to your muscles.

In today's busy world, we often times become so busy that we do not even realize just how much stress we are under. It is common for people to "accept" their stress as a part of life, but it can have quite a negative impact on your health. Try to be more mindful of your stress levels and take a short break several times per day just to find a quite place to take some deep breaths. Be sure to set up appointments to receive massage regularly for optimal phyiscal and emtional health!

Sciatica is a very common, yet very painful conditon mainly affecting the lower torso and legs. This condition is caused by a variety of structural and muscular conditions that result in an impingment of the sciatic nerve, which can be a result of injuries, trauma or overuse from everyday life. For most individuals, Sciatica is very uncomfortable and becomes more extreme with each recurring attack.

Most people describe their symptoms as sharp, shooting pains in the hip and going down the leg. In the acute phase of an attack the pain is usually constant, but may subside temporarily. The pain can return very sudden, and often times unexpectedly. Sciatica is caused by deep muscle spasms in the buttocks, resulting in an impinged sciatic nerve near the hip. This causes the severe pain and weakness that sciatica is known for.

Massage therapy is a great treatment for sciatica and pain relief. Massage helps to increase bloodflow to the muscles, remove toxins from them and helps to lengthen and relax them. Massage also helps the restore range of motion and felxibility during the recovery process.

Have you ever asked yourself, how can I help relieve my allergy symptoms in a natural way?  Suffering from respiratory symptoms and sinus problems that are related to seasonal allergies is very common and affects millions of people each year.  Allergy medications are a necessity for many, but they can come with some unwanted reactions.  A great addition to your allergy relief treatment plan is receiving regular massage therapy treatments.

Massage is great for you overall, but also helps to boost your immune system by increasing the flow of your lymph fluid.  Facial massage helps to sooth and clear your sinuses.   Aromatherapy massage is also very helpful, and certain essential oils help to clear your sinuses and improve airflow through your nasal cavities.

Aside from allergy related problems, we tend to become more active during the spring and summer months which can result in overuse of muscle groups that haven't been used as much during the winter.  Massage helps to rid our muscular tissues of adhesions and metabolic wastes such as lactic acid, and return them to their natural state of homeostasis.

While our busy lives make it difficult to reserve time for ourselves, we must take care of our bodies.  Regular massage promotes both mental and physical health, and is an important part of an overall healthy lifestyle.  Take time as often as possible to receive a massage and life your healthiest life.

Choosing the right massage therapist  can be a very important decision for your health.  However, once you find the therapist that offers exactly what you need, it can be life changing.  There are many important factors to consider when choosing your massage therapist.  A few of the most important factors will be covered in the information below.

Is The Massage Therapist Licensed?   Most states now require anyone who is practicing massage therapy to be licensed, or at least have a certification.  Training in an accredited school is generally necessary for either option.  The training usually includes general knowledge and hands-on workshops of the most common massage modalities, as well as in-depth courses in Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Kinesiology.  If you are considering a therapist as your own, it is a good idea to ask them about their training and certifications.  Those who have earned the right to legally practice massage will not have a problem informing you of how they obtained it.  In fact, most will proudly go over their education with you.

Does The Massage Therapist Treat Your Specific Condition?   While there are many types of massage therapy that treat general conditions, some modalities are geared more toward specific areas of pain or discomfort.  Perhaps you suffer from sciatic pain.  Some therapists may specialize in treating this specifically, therefore you are likely to get better results from them because of their drive and experience.  Asking a friend or relative, or reading reviews from reputable review sites (such as Google) can often times be helpful in gaining information about how a therapist has helped others.

How Did The Massage Therapist Answer Your Questions?   When you find a therapist that you are considering, sending them an email or speaking with them on the phone can be beneficial in helping determine whether they are a good fit for your needs.  A therapist who is confident in their work will likely ask specific questions about your needs and expectations.  This is generally a sign of a quality therapist.

Always keep in mind that even though there are many Massage Therapists to choose from, your body is your most important possession.  Especially if you are seeking therapeutic massage for a specific medical condition, it is a good idea to ask questions, check reputations and make sure that you are completely comfortable with the therapist you choose.  If you feel apprehensive, try to determine why before moving forward.  Having a therapist that you can trust will allow you to receive more benefit from your bodywork.
