Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is a variation on Swedish massage therapy. Smooth, heated stones are placed on key points on the body. I also hold the stones, using them to massage certain areas of the body.
The stones are immersed in water and heated in an electric heating device until they reach a certain temperature range. The stones are then used to massage specific areas of tension, or sometimes placed in specific problem areas to let the body absorb the heat while a different area is being massaged.
The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows me apply deeper pressure, if desired.
The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation in the muscle tissues and calms the nervous system. Hot stone massage is a great pre-treatment for deep tissue massage.
